- I purchased this kit because it was priced right and was lithium ion. I noticed that the impact driver was heavier than the dewalt that I use all the time. My first real test was using the recip-saw on a couple of projects around my home. The saw failed two weeks into using it. I returned the saw to Lowes and they said they could only replace the entire kit. I swapped it for Dewalt brushless tools.

- I have a Kobalt 18 volt drill with the 20 volt battery. It is way more powerful than my Milwaukee 18V Li-Ion drill and even more powerful than my Hitachi 18V Li-Ion drill. I drove 5/16" lag screws into too small and shallow holes, and it powered them right in all the way without hinting that it was going to quit. If you put that much load on the Milwaukee battery it craps out quickly.

- For the same price you could have the DEWALT DCK422KA 18-Volt NiCad Cordless 4-Tool Combo Kit with Impact Driver. It has a circular saw instead of the recip saw and the light is single blub incandescent. Much older technology but (contractor quality) and it should outlast the Kobalt (homeowner quality). I have the DeWalt combo except recip saw instead of the impact drive in a hard case for over five years – no problem, even battery still good. DeWalt batteries outlasted my Milwaukee NiCad and Li-ion. (I like the Milwaukee tools more but the batteries only lasted 4-5 years)
This Kolalt combo does look pretty cool!
